SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 90
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Austin Saengerrunde Damenchor on the grand |
|
|
occasion of the choral group's 60th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Saengerrunde Damenchor was organized in 1959 |
|
|
as part of the Austin Saengerrunde Club, a German singing club |
|
|
known today as one of the oldest cultural organizations in |
|
|
Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Damenchor, or women's choir, was established |
|
|
to help the club promote interest in the preservation of German |
|
|
song; the choir gained recognition for hosting an annual |
|
|
Christmas concert and for performing at the annual German Texan |
|
|
Saengerfest of the Deutsch-Texanischer Saengerbund, an event |
|
|
that continues to bring together German choirs from around the |
|
|
state each year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On May 5, 2019, the Austin Saengerrunde Club is |
|
|
hosting the 73rd Saengertag of the Deutsch-Texanischer |
|
|
Saengerbund at the club's historic Saengerrunde Halle; German |
|
|
choirs in Texas will gather to showcase their exceptional talents |
|
|
and to promote the preservation of German culture and language in |
|
|
Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Saengerrunde Damenchor are part of |
|
|
a proud history in Austin, and it is indeed fitting that their |
|
|
beloved Saengerrunde Halle will serve as the venue for the annual |
|
|
Saengerfest during the year that marks the choir's 60th |
|
|
anniversary; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Austin |
|
|
Saengerrunde Damenchor for 60 years of success in promoting |
|
|
German culture and heritage in the Lone Star State and extend to |
|
|
all best wishes for a memorable 73rd Saengertag of the |
|
|
Deutsch-Texanischer Saengerbund; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the choir as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
