R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas |
|
have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and |
|
workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives |
|
in the pandemic was Harold Smith, a dedicated and well-respected |
|
correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, |
|
who passed away on December 15, 2020, at the age of 77; and |
|
WHEREAS, Officer Smith was a valued member of the staff of the |
|
Jordan Unit for five and a half years; a dedicated public servant, |
|
he joined the Department of Criminal Justice following his |
|
retirement as an inspector with the Texas Department of |
|
Transportation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Smith took great pride in |
|
his four children and seven grandchildren and loved to spend time |
|
with them; an active individual, he benefited youth in the town of |
|
Panhandle as a scoutmaster for Troop 501, and in his free time, he |
|
loved to read about railroads; he was a great conversationalist and |
|
a good listener as well, qualities that never failed to brighten the |
|
workday for his colleagues; and |
|
WHEREAS, Harold Smith faithfully and ably performed his |
|
duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal |
|
Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all |
|
who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
Harold Smith and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends, |
|
and colleagues; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harold |
|
Smith. |
