R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School in Port Lavaca |
|
celebrated its 25th anniversary on August 14, 2021; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded by Father Dan Morales in 1996, OLG was |
|
established in the former School of Religious Education building at |
|
Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church; the school initially served 43 |
|
children in kindergarten through sixth grade, and within the next |
|
five years, classes were added for pre-K, seventh grade, and eighth |
|
grade students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, OLG benefits from the able guidance of |
|
Principal Theresa Dent, who has led the school since 2004; the |
|
campus includes 11 classrooms and a number of facilities, such as a |
|
library, a computer lab, and multiple playgrounds, as well as a gym |
|
and performing arts center; currently, more than 120 students are |
|
enrolled at the school; and |
|
WHEREAS, OLG was fully accredited by the Texas Catholic |
|
Conference of Bishops Education Department in 2007; among its many |
|
accolades, the school was named a 2011 Small Business of the Year by |
|
the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past quarter century, the faculty and staff |
|
of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School have committed themselves to |
|
meeting the educational needs of their students, and the school has |
|
played a vital role in helping many young Texans build a bright and |
|
prosperous future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 25th |
|
anniversary of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School and extend to |
|
all those associated with the institution sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
