R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of David James Weakley, who passed away on September 4, |
|
2021, at the age of 63; and |
|
WHEREAS, David Weakley was born in Pekin, Illinois, on |
|
January 7, 1958, to Richard and Mildred Weakley, and he enjoyed the |
|
companionship of four siblings, Jonathan, Judith, Sandra, and |
|
Barbara; he grew up in Pekin and Streator, Illinois, and went on to |
|
graduate from Streator Township High School in 1976; shortly |
|
thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he |
|
served until transferring to the U.S. Navy; after his time in the |
|
military, he attended Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois, |
|
earning his associate degree as well as his airframe and powerplant |
|
certification; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Weakley |
|
worked at Powerton Station with Commonwealth Edison for nearly 20 |
|
years, before relocating to Texas in 2001; he married the love of |
|
his life, the former Melissa Reeh, in 2002, and he was blessed with |
|
a cherished family that included his three sons, Jamison, Elijah, |
|
and Joel; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the last decade and a half, Mr. Weakley resided |
|
in Hunt County, and he was employed by L3 Communications Integrated |
|
Systems for 13 years, until his retirement in January 2020; a man of |
|
strong faith, he was a staunch conservative who was a founding |
|
officer of the Texas Liberty Defenders group; he actively attended |
|
and hosted rallies and political events, and he even visited the |
|
State Capitol to testify at hearings and engage with his elected |
|
representatives; and |
|
WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Weakley counted hunting, |
|
camping, fishing, boating, and cycling as some of his favorite |
|
hobbies; he was also a skilled gunsmith who liked going to the |
|
shooting range, and he was fond of watching classic movies and |
|
learning about military and world history; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although David Weakley is deeply missed, those who |
|
were privileged to share in his love and friendship will always |
|
remember him with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
David James Weakley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of |
|
his family: to his wife, Melissa Reeh-Weakley; to his sons, |
|
Jamison, Elijah, and Joel Weakley; to his siblings, Jonathan |
|
Weakley and his wife, Susan, Judith Loy, Sandra Weghorst and her |
|
husband, Joe, and Barbara Gray and her husband, Ron; and to his many |
|
other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David |
|
Weakley. |
