R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dennis M. Allen is retiring from the Hardin County |
|
Sheriff's Office in October 2021, drawing to a close a rewarding |
|
career in public service that has spanned five and a half decades; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Silsbee, Mr. Allen joined the U.S. Army |
|
in 1966 and served with distinction during a combat tour in Vietnam; |
|
after three years in the military, he was honorably discharged at |
|
the rank of specialist; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Allen subsequently became a law enforcement |
|
officer, joining the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police |
|
Department in 1969; during his tenure there, he served as a patrol |
|
officer, an undercover detective, and a member of the Civil |
|
Disturbance Unit; in 1973, he accepted a position with the Silsbee |
|
Police Department, and he eventually led the agency as the chief of |
|
police; after a brief stint as a sheriff's deputy in Hardin County, |
|
he became a member of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, where he |
|
spent a decade as the captain of detectives; he returned to the |
|
Hardin County Sheriff's Office in 2011, starting out as a deputy and |
|
rising through the ranks to sergeant and later to major of criminal |
|
investigations; known for his integrity and dedication to |
|
protecting and serving the public, he has mentored numerous new |
|
officers, many of whom have gone on to become supervisors and |
|
administrators; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than a half century, Dennis Allen has |
|
exemplified the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession, |
|
and he may indeed reflect with pride on his notable record of |
|
achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dennis |
|
M. Allen on his retirement from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
