R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Royse City Independent School District is |
|
hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ruth Cherry |
|
Elementary School campus on October 29, 2021; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ruth Cherry Elementary is named for Norris Ruth |
|
Tanton Cherry, a former educator and administrator of Royse City |
|
ISD; over the course of her career with the district, she served as |
|
an elementary and high school teacher, and she went on to become a |
|
principal at Browning Primary School and Royse City High School; |
|
she ultimately retired in 1998, and the district's intermediate |
|
school was dedicated in her honor in 2009; the campus transitioned |
|
into an elementary school in 2020, and it currently benefits from |
|
the able leadership of principal Kara Onken; and |
|
WHEREAS, The construction project for Ruth Cherry Elementary |
|
is being funded as part of a Royse City ISD bond package that passed |
|
in May 2021; the new campus will be located on Verandah Boulevard, |
|
and the school is scheduled to open in fall 2022; its current |
|
facilities will be transformed into an early childhood center; and |
|
WHEREAS, By equipping young Texans with the knowledge and |
|
skills necessary for success, Ruth Cherry Elementary School is |
|
making a positive and lasting difference in its community, and the |
|
construction of a new campus will enhance its efforts in that |
|
crucial endeavor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the |
|
groundbreaking ceremony of the new Ruth Cherry Elementary School |
|
campus in Royse City ISD and extend to the school's students, |
|
faculty, staff, and administration sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
