R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Continuing a beloved tradition, the Hispanic
  Heritage Ambassadors DFW organization and the City of Grand Prairie
  are presenting the annual Fiestas Patrias celebration, which
  commemorates Dieciséis de Septiembre, an important holiday for many
  Texans of Mexican descent; and
         WHEREAS, Dieciséis de Septiembre commemorates the day in 1810
  when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the parish priest for the
  town of Dolores, issued the call to action that ultimately led to
  Mexico's independence from colonial Spanish rule; Father Hidalgo's
  proclamation came to be known as El Grito, or the Cry of Dolores,
  and in 1825, the Republic of Mexico officially declared Dieciséis
  de Septiembre as the nation's independence day; and
         WHEREAS, The Fiestas Patrias event in Grand Prairie features
  performances by mariachi bands and folkloric dancers, and attendees
  can enjoy an array of traditional Mexican foods; this
  much-anticipated gathering draws people from throughout the area to
  take part in an exciting and enjoyable cultural celebration; and
         WHEREAS, Grand Prairie's Fiestas Patrias get-together is a
  testament to the strength and vitality of the city's Mexican
  American community, and this festive occasion is indeed deserving
  of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the Fiestas
  Patrias event hosted by Hispanic Heritage Ambassadors DFW and the
  City of Grand Prairie and extend to the organizers and participants
  sincere best wishes for a successful gathering.
