R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Arlington Police Department pays tribute to its |
|
fallen officers each May during National Police Week with a solemn |
|
ceremony at Heroes Park; and |
|
WHEREAS, First dedicated on May 17, 2008, Heroes Park is |
|
situated near the APD's West Station and the city's Fire Training |
|
Center, and it features a tree-lined walkway, a fountain and |
|
memorial pool, and the Wall of Honor, which bears the names of those |
|
officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1930, eight police officers have made the |
|
ultimate sacrifice while serving the city; these include James E. |
|
Johnson, Gary D. Harl, Terry Lynn Lewis, Jerry J. Crocker, Craig |
|
Michael Hanking, Joseph Thomas Cushman, Craig Gordon Story, and |
|
Jillian Michelle Smith; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texans owe an immense debt of gratitude to the men |
|
and women of law enforcement who willingly place themselves in |
|
harm's way to protect and serve the public, and the Arlington Police |
|
Department's annual tribute to its fallen heroes is a fitting |
|
remembrance of their sacrifice and devotion to duty; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the Arlington |
|
Police Department's annual fallen officers memorial ceremony and |
|
extend to the members of the department sincere best wishes for a |
|
meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Arlington Police Department as an expression of |
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
