R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For many years, Grand Prairie has hosted a Cinco de |
|
Mayo parade and festival that has become a beloved tradition for |
|
residents from all walks of life; and |
|
WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, when the |
|
Mexican army achieved victory over French forces at the Battle of |
|
Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War; over time, the holiday has |
|
grown into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, and it has |
|
gained a great deal of popularity in Mexican American communities; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The Cinco de Mayo event in Grand Prairie kicks off |
|
with a parade through the city's downtown area and also features an |
|
assortment of food and entertainment, including performances from |
|
mariachi bands and folklorico dancers; and |
|
WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors flock to Grand |
|
Prairie's Cinco de Mayo celebration to share in the vibrant |
|
traditions that help define Mexican culture, and this occasion |
|
provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the many ways that the |
|
community is enriched by the contributions of Mexican Americans; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate Grand |
|
Prairie's Cinco de Mayo Parade and Celebration and extend to its |
|
organizers sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the City of Grand Prairie as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
