R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Consuelo Tello Contreras of Houston on September 30, |
|
2021, at the age of 92; and |
|
WHEREAS, The former Connie Tello was born in Houston on |
|
March 30, 1929, the daughter of Elodia and Jesus Tello, and she grew |
|
up with the companionship of 10 siblings, Herlinda, Adelina, Jesse, |
|
Alfred, Gilbert, Pauline, Hortense, Rudy, Armando, and Roy; she |
|
married the late Rufus Rodriguez Jr., and the couple became the |
|
proud parents of five children, Irma, Silvia, and David, as well as |
|
Rufus and Richard, who preceded their mother in death; over the |
|
years, she had the pleasure of seeing her family grow to include |
|
five grandchildren, Carolyn, Victor, Thomas, Jessary, and Daviana, |
|
and six great-grandchildren, Thomas, Isaiah, Gavynn, Michael, |
|
Christopher, and Lauren; and |
|
WHEREAS, She devoted herself to her home and her family, and |
|
her support of her children's school and extracurricular activities |
|
included serving as a room mother and PTO president; after becoming |
|
a single parent, she found employment at European Imports, and she |
|
went on to work for Joske's for several years; later in life, she |
|
married a second time, to Carlos Contreras; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Mrs. Contreras |
|
volunteered at the Irvington Boulevard Salvation Army after |
|
retiring, and she was appointed director of the organization's |
|
seniors program; determined and independent, she learned to drive |
|
in her later years and was still driving at the age of 90; in her |
|
leisure hours, she enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, traveling, |
|
and cheering on the Houston Astros; and |
|
WHEREAS, Possessed of a warm and generous nature, a keen |
|
intellect, and a joyous zest for life, Connie Contreras brightened |
|
the world for all who knew her, and they will forever hold her close |
|
in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Consuelo Tello Contreras and extend sincere condolences to her |
|
loved ones; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Connie |
|
Contreras. |
