R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Greenville Lions Club are celebrating |
|
the 100th anniversary of their organization on October 23, 2021; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, After disbanding during World War I, the Greenville |
|
Lions Club was rechartered in 1921, and that same year the |
|
organization developed Graham Park and donated it to the City of |
|
Greenville; as part of the organization's mission to improve the |
|
lives of the visually impaired and to prevent avoidable blindness, |
|
the club sponsors an annual vision screening clinic and partners |
|
with Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH) to provide eyeglasses for |
|
those in need; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Greenville Lions Club helped establish the |
|
Spirit of Giving Hunt County, which distributes Christmas gifts for |
|
children as well as clothing, shoes, and other items; the |
|
organization also supports a variety of local charities and holds a |
|
number of annual events and fundraisers including a first |
|
responders' luncheon and a golf tournament; moreover, the group has |
|
purchased seats for the Greenville Municipal Auditorium and benches |
|
for the Hunt County Fairgrounds and donated a lion fountain to |
|
Graham Park; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the past century, the Greenville Lions Club has |
|
played a vital role in the community, and its members' commitment to |
|
sharing their time and talents has set an outstanding example of |
|
civic engagement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th |
|
anniversary of the Greenville Lions Club and extend to its members |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
