R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Anna Nguyen has rendered years of exceptional |
|
|
service to LGBTQIA+ communities across Central Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An avid activist for transgender rights, Anna Nguyen |
|
|
is president of PFLAG Austin, the local affiliate of the national |
|
|
PFLAG organization; established in 1994, the Austin chapter |
|
|
provides assistance to area LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families |
|
|
through support groups, advocacy, and educational initiatives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in London and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, |
|
|
Ms. Nguyen moved to Austin in 1975; when embarking on her own gender |
|
|
journey, she found support with PFLAG Austin, which led her to begin |
|
|
her advocacy efforts; she has been a champion for transgender women |
|
|
of color, and she has fought against racism, challenges to |
|
|
reproductive freedom, and policies that negatively impact members |
|
|
of LGBTQIA+ communities; she is also a software engineer, as well as |
|
|
a model and a fashion designer; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By defending the rights of those who are oppressed |
|
|
and marginalized, Anna Nguyen is helping to build a more just and |
|
|
inclusive society for all citizens of the Lone Star State, and she |
|
|
may indeed take great pride in her myriad achievements; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Anna Nguyen for her |
|
|
longtime advocacy in behalf of Central Texas LGBTQIA+ communities |
|
|
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her |
|
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Nguyen as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
