A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to certain requirements for water systems. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 341, Health and Safety |
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 341.043 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 341.043. BOIL WATER NOTICES. (a) The operator of a |
|
public drinking water supply system, when required by commission |
|
rule to issue a boil water notice to its customers, shall: |
|
(1) provide the notice in writing to each customer as |
|
prescribed by commission rule to the street address of the |
|
customer; and |
|
(2) attempt to reach each customer by electronic means |
|
to provide notice as prescribed by commission rule. |
|
(b) When a boil water notice is no longer in effect, the |
|
operator of a public drinking water supply system shall notify each |
|
customer that the boil water notice has expired in the manner |
|
described by Subsection (a). |
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter A, Chapter 186, Utilities Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 186.008 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 186.008. WEATHERIZATION. The Texas Commission on |
|
Environmental Quality may require that a public utility that |
|
furnishes water to the public complete a program of weatherization |
|
if that commission finds that the public utility is at risk of being |
|
unable to provide water to customers for a significant period of |
|
time due to weather-related failures in equipment or |
|
infrastructure. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
