A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the adoption of social and emotional learning standards |
|
|
for public school educational programs. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 29.9061 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 29.9061. SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING. (a) The State |
|
|
Board of Education shall adopt developmentally appropriate, |
|
|
evidence-based standards for social and emotional learning, |
|
|
including standards regarding: |
|
|
(1) the development of competency in self-management, |
|
|
self-awareness, and social awareness for students; and |
|
|
(2) responsible decision-making. |
|
|
(b) Each school district shall provide in appropriate |
|
|
educational programs in each grade level the social and emotional |
|
|
learning standards adopted under Subsection (a). |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
