A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the identification required for voting of a voter with a |
|
|
recent name change. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) A person whose name has changed not more than two years |
|
|
before the date the person offers to vote may present |
|
|
identification that shows a name of the voter that does not match |
|
|
the name on the precinct list of registered voters if the person |
|
|
also presents: |
|
|
(1) certified documentation of the name change that |
|
|
shows: |
|
|
(A) the name of the voter shown on the precinct |
|
|
list of registered voters; and |
|
|
(B) the name of the voter shown on the |
|
|
identification presented; or |
|
|
(2) citizenship documentation that shows that the |
|
|
voter recently took a new name as part of the citizenship process. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
