R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |
|
a close with the passing of Peggy Louise Wedgeworth Wright on |
|
November 26, 2019, at the age of 95; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Eva Bell Evans and Monnie |
|
Wedgeworth, Peggy Wright was born at home in Chireno on January 24, |
|
1924; she moved with her family to Nacogdoches in 1933 and enrolled |
|
in the Stephen F. Austin State Teacher's College advanced |
|
educational program; after graduating from high school, she entered |
|
SFA's collegiate program, majoring in music and English; and |
|
WHEREAS, While in college, she met her future husband, Tom |
|
Wright, on a blind date, and the couple went on to enjoy seven |
|
decades of marriage before Mr. Wright's passing in 2012; together, |
|
they raised two daughters, Kitty and Peggy, and they were further |
|
blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Having devoted herself to her family for many years, |
|
Mrs. Wright increased her civic engagement after her children were |
|
grown; among the many organizations to benefit from her efforts |
|
were Cum Concilio Club, Rotary Anns, the Daughters of the American |
|
Revolution, and the Duplicate Bridge Association, and she served as |
|
a director of the Citizens 1st Bank of Nacogdoches and as a member |
|
of the Texas Arts Alliance Board of Governors; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wright was also an avid supporter of SFA, |
|
chairing the board of regents and becoming treasurer of the SFA |
|
University Foundation; moreover, Mr. and Mrs. Wright created the |
|
university's Wedgeworth-Wright Endowment for the Arts; the school |
|
granted Mrs. Wright an honorary doctorate of humane letters and |
|
named the music building in honor of her and her husband; and |
|
WHEREAS, An active congregant of Westminster Presbyterian |
|
Church, Mrs. Wright served as an elder as well as a soloist and |
|
pianist for the church choir; and |
|
WHEREAS, Peggy Wright possessed a generosity of spirit that |
|
expressed itself in myriad ways, and she enriched the lives of |
|
countless people with her kindness, wisdom, and grace; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Peggy Louise |
|
Wedgeworth Wright and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn |
|
her passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peggy |
|
Wright. |
