R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Joe Olvera, lead custodian at William B. Travis |
|
Academy in Dallas, demonstrated exceptional dedication to the |
|
school during the February 2021 winter storm; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Olvera has been a valued member of the staff at |
|
William B. Travis, a Dallas ISD magnet school for gifted and |
|
talented students, for 21 years; as the community was beset with an |
|
unprecedented bout of subfreezing weather, he went to the campus to |
|
keep watch over it in the frigid temperatures; and |
|
WHEREAS, Camping overnight in the more than half-century-old |
|
building, Mr. Olvera slept on an air mattress and brought along |
|
space heaters to keep himself warm; he made regular rounds of the |
|
building, monitoring the water pipes and repairing a number of |
|
small leaks, and thanks to his vigilance, the school was able to |
|
survive the historic weather event with minimal issues; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Joe Olvera's commitment to his work as a |
|
custodian is well-known among the students, staff, and teachers of |
|
William B. Travis, he demonstrated a remarkable willingness to go |
|
above and beyond to safeguard the school at a challenging time for |
|
the community, and he is deserving of special praise for his |
|
actions; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend custodian Joe Olvera for watching over |
|
William B. Travis Academy in Dallas during the February 2021 winter |
|
storm and extend to him sincere appreciation for his efforts; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Olvera as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
