R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life devoted to education drew
  to a close with the death of Elizabeth Pompa Garza on June 17, 2020;
  and
         WHEREAS, Elizabeth Pompa Garza earned her bachelor's degree
  from Our Lady of the Lake University and her master's degree and her
  Ph.D. in educational administration from The University of Texas at
  Austin; she began her nearly half-century career in education as a
  kindergarten teacher, and she went on to hold leadership positions
  with the Edgewood Independent School District, including
  superintendent and chief officer; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Pompa Garza also worked with the AVANCE program
  for underresourced families, Laredo Community College, the
  Intercultural Development Research Association, the Texas
  Education Agency, and UT Austin; she retired in 2018 as director of
  the Center for Student Information of the Alamo Colleges District;
  and
         WHEREAS, An engaged member of her community, Dr. Pompa Garza
  volunteered with the San Antonio Area Foundation, the GED Holiday
  Brunch Committee, and the Mexican American Unity Council
  Scholarship Luncheon Committee; she was recognized with numerous
  honors, including the Outstanding Woman Role Model award, the
  Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Award from the La Prensa Foundation,
  the Constance Allen Heritage Lifelong Learning Award, the
  Commission of the Yellow Rose of Texas from the governor of Texas,
  and induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame; and
         WHEREAS, An inspiring educator and administrator, Elizabeth
  Pompa Garza made a positive difference in the lives of generations
  of students, and her contributions will be remembered and admired
  for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Elizabeth Pompa
  Garza and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to
  her sons, Jose Pompa Garza and his wife, Kate, and Julian Alejandro
  Garza; to her grandchildren, Martin and Sofía; to her siblings,
  Delia Pompa Saenz, Toni Pompa Rodriguez, Melissa Pompa de la Cruz,
  Saul Pompa Jr., and Mary Ann, Michael, and David Pompa; and to her
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Elizabeth
  Pompa Garza.
