R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
those saddened by the death of Ruth del Cueto of San Antonio on |
|
August 23, 2020, at the age of 78; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on September 17, 1941, in San Antonio, Ruthie |
|
del Cueto was the daughter of Henriqueta Ortiz Garza and Josue R. |
|
Garza; she graduated from Thomas Edison High School and went on to |
|
earn two degrees from Southwest Texas State University, a |
|
bachelor's degree in education in 1963 and a master's degree in |
|
Spanish in 1973; soon after completing her graduate studies, |
|
Mrs. del Cueto was hired as a Spanish professor at San Antonio |
|
College, where she enjoyed an outstanding 32-year career; she |
|
served as chair of the foreign language department from 1989 to 1993 |
|
and received numerous honors, including the Fulbright Teacher |
|
Exchange Award and the Teaching Excellence award from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin; in 2005, she was named professor |
|
emeritus; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of resolute faith, Mrs. del Cueto |
|
participated in prayer meetings, gave her support to Vacation Bible |
|
School, and taught a Wesleyan Bible class; in her leisure time, she |
|
loved to travel, and she visited more than 20 countries over the |
|
course of her life; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. del Cueto married the love of her life, Charles |
|
del Cueto, on August 25, 1962, and the couple shared a rewarding |
|
union of 57 years; they were blessed with two children, John and |
|
Andrew, and later experienced the joy of welcoming into their |
|
family two grandchildren, Madelyn and Joshua; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ruth del Cueto possessed a generosity of spirit that |
|
expressed itself in myriad ways, and she enriched the lives of |
|
countless people with her warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ruth del Cueto and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to her family: to her husband, Charles del |
|
Cueto; to her brother, Alfonso "Poncho" Garza; to her sons, John |
|
Charles and Andrew Raymond del Cueto; to her grandchildren, Madelyn |
|
Ruth and Joshua Andrew del Cueto; and to her other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruth del |
|
Cueto. |
