R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Estela Casas has greatly advanced the important
  mission of the University Medical Center Foundation and El Paso
  Children's Hospital Foundation through her tireless efforts; and
         WHEREAS, Since January 2020, Ms. Casas has served as
  executive director of the UMC Foundation, a component of the El Paso
  County Hospital District; she began her association with the
  organization as a benefactor, raising funds to assist cancer
  patients; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Casas enjoys a high profile in El Paso, having
  been the primary news anchor for television station KVIA for 27
  years; earlier in her career, she worked at three other stations in
  the city; and
         WHEREAS, In 2010, Ms. Casas was diagnosed with thyroid
  cancer, and seven years later, she was treated for bilateral breast
  cancer; she shared her experiences to raise awareness and to
  provide hope and valuable information to patients dealing with
  similar challenges; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Casas also used her platform to encourage
  support for medical research and for the most vulnerable people
  battling breast cancer; she launched the Stand With Estela Fund,
  which provides resources to meet a variety of needs, such as
  compression sleeves, wigs, or transportation to and from
  chemotherapy appointments; in addition, the organization has
  sponsored such events as a drive-through health fair, and it
  pledged $100,000 to the UMC Foundation, which named the Estela
  Casas Infusion Center for Hope & Healing in honor of the
  philanthropist; and
         WHEREAS, An inspiring leader, Estela Casas has greatly
  benefited University Medical Center and the community it serves,
  and she has earned the deep admiration and appreciation of her
  fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Estela Casas for her exceptional
  contributions to the University Medical Center Foundation and El
  Paso Children's Hospital Foundation and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Casas as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
