R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Vince Sheffield has been named interim |
|
|
superintendent of the El Paso Independent School District; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Appointed on November 5, 2020, Mr. Sheffield is the |
|
|
first Black superintendent of El Paso ISD; he joined the district in |
|
|
1993 as a fifth-grade teacher at Alamo Elementary School, and he |
|
|
went on to work as the assistant principal at Newman Elementary |
|
|
School and as principal of Hillside Elementary; he was subsequently |
|
|
employed by the district's central office, where he held numerous |
|
|
positions in human resources; in 2016, he was named deputy |
|
|
superintendent of administration and academics, and he continues to |
|
|
serve in that position in addition to his role as interim |
|
|
superintendent; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of more than two and a half decades |
|
|
with El Paso ISD, Mr. Sheffield has worked tirelessly to foster a |
|
|
positive learning environment and provide valuable educational |
|
|
opportunities to area students; although the COVID-19 pandemic has |
|
|
placed immense burdens on schools throughout the district, he has |
|
|
risen to this unprecedented challenge, and his able leadership has |
|
|
been instrumental in the ongoing transition back to in-person |
|
|
instruction; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Retired from the U.S. Army, Mr. Sheffield came to El |
|
|
Paso three decades ago when he was stationed at Fort Bliss; he holds |
|
|
a bachelor's degree in education from George Mason University in |
|
|
Fairfax, Virginia, and a master's degree in educational |
|
|
administration from The University of Texas at El Paso; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Vincent Sheffield has demonstrated a profound |
|
|
commitment to the students of El Paso ISD, and his dedication, |
|
|
professionalism, and commitment to excellence will continue to |
|
|
serve him well as he takes on the challenges and opportunities of |
|
|
his new position; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Vincent Sheffield on his |
|
|
appointment as interim superintendent of the El Paso Independent |
|
|
School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for a |
|
|
successful tenure; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Sheffield as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
