R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Zach Casias of Lubbock High School reached the |
|
pinnacle of success by winning the 5A state championship in the |
|
120-pound weight division at the 2021 University Interscholastic |
|
League Wrestling State Tournament, held in Cypress on April 23; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following a runner-up finish in the 106-pound |
|
division at the 2020 state meet as a sophomore, Mr. Casias returned |
|
in top form for his junior year; he went undefeated in the regular |
|
season and bested each of his opponents at the Region 1-5A |
|
championship to return to the state competition; after a |
|
first-round bye, he opened the tournament by besting wrestlers from |
|
Cedar Park and Burleson Centennial High Schools to advance to the |
|
finals; and |
|
WHEREAS, The title contest turned out to be a rematch of the |
|
regional championship showdown, in which Mr. Casias defeated |
|
Randall High School's Aidan Medina in overtime; with the state |
|
crown on the line, Mr. Casias downed his rival 6-2 and claimed the |
|
5A title; in so doing, he became the first wrestler from Lubbock |
|
High School to finish the season with a perfect record; and |
|
WHEREAS, By triumphing in the state's premier showcase for |
|
high school wrestlers, Zach Casias has realized a well-deserved |
|
reward for his countless hours of hard work, and he has become a |
|
source of tremendous pride for his school and community; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Zach Casias on winning the 2021 UIL |
|
5A wrestling state championship in the 120-pound division and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Casias as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
