R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Mesquite Police Department is mourning the loss |
|
of a dedicated and much-loved member of its police dog unit, K-9 |
|
officer Kozmo, who died in the line of duty on April 26, 2021; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on February 24, 2016, the Dutch Shepherd mix |
|
joined the department in 2017; Kozmo's handler, Officer Jason |
|
Crawford, cofounded the K-9 unit along with fellow officer Jeremy |
|
Wilemon, and the two selected Kozmo to be one of the first police |
|
dogs in the fledgling program; and |
|
WHEREAS, With the help of Officer Crawford's training, Kozmo |
|
excelled in his duties and distinguished himself as a true asset to |
|
the department; together with his handler, Kozmo worked to find |
|
more than 200 suspects and assisted in the seizure of over 200 |
|
pounds of illicit drugs; in one memorable incident that |
|
demonstrated Kozmo's keen abilities as a tracker, police were |
|
attempting to locate a suspect on foot; during the search, Kozmo |
|
repeatedly led officers to a nearby body of water, where the |
|
individual in question was eventually discovered to be hiding |
|
beneath the surface; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although the death of this exemplary police dog has |
|
brought great sadness to many, Kozmo will forever be remembered for |
|
his courageous and steadfast service to his community as well as for |
|
the special camaraderie he shared with his handler and colleagues; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of K-9 officer Kozmo |
|
and extend sincere condolences to Officer Jason Crawford and to the |
|
other members of the Mesquite Police Department. |
