R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Ella Strickland of Sunray High School achieved great |
|
|
distinction by winning the gold medal in the 2A pole vault at the |
|
|
2021 University Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in |
|
|
Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 7, Ms. Strickland |
|
|
turned in an exceptional performance, not only winning the pole |
|
|
vault event but also setting a new 2A state record by clearing a |
|
|
height of 13 feet, 0.25 inches; in addition, she ran in the |
|
|
100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland's record-setting vault and state |
|
|
title are all the more impressive in that they bring a triumphant |
|
|
close to a challenging nine-month period in which she worked to |
|
|
rehabilitate her knee after suffering a serious injury requiring |
|
|
surgery; through perseverance and the able guidance of her father, |
|
|
Matt Strickland, who serves as the pole vault and hurdles coach at |
|
|
Sunray High, she regained her form and emerged as a champion; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for |
|
|
high school track and field athletes, Ella Strickland has ably |
|
|
represented her school and community, and she will cherish her |
|
|
memories of this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Ella Strickland on her first-place |
|
|
finish in the 2A pole vault at the 2021 UIL Track & Field State Meet |
|
|
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Strickland as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
