R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The election of Bishop James W. E. Dixon II as
  president of the NAACP Houston Branch provides a fitting
  opportunity to pay tribute to his lifetime of service to the
  community; and
         WHEREAS, The senior pastor of the Community of Faith Church,
  Bishop Dixon is the founder of several impactful organizations and
  initiatives, including Good Gang USA, Harris County Council for a
  Safer County, Create a Safer Place for Me, and Black Men Rise, among
  others; he has served as special projects director of Global United
  Fellowship, and through his work on the board of the Samaritan's
  Feet organization, he has helped to distribute more than six
  million pairs of shoes to children in 60 countries around the world;
  and
         WHEREAS, From 1995 to 1999, Bishop Dixon chaired the social
  justice committee of the National Baptist Convention of America,
  and in 2008, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, he helped distribute
  100,000 meals and care packages to citizens of Houston; he is a
  former board member of United Way of Greater Houston, the
  Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, and the Acres Home
  Chamber for Business and Economic Development, Inc., and he has
  served as an advisor to the Harris County Constables and the Harris
  County Sheriff's Office; moreover, he is the author of several
  books, including The Difference Is Vision and The Secret of the
  Seed, as well as a songwriter and producer; and
         WHEREAS, For many years, Bishop Dixon has dedicated himself
  to a ministry of activism and community empowerment, and he may
  indeed reflect with pride on all that he has accomplished as he
  looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of his
  prestigious new position; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bishop James W. E. Dixon II on his
  election as president of the NAACP Houston Branch and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success in his important work;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Bishop Dixon as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
