R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Torrey Rhone has earned great distinction by |
|
becoming the first African American to serve at the rank of sergeant |
|
in the history of the Mesquite Police Department; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sergeant Rhone was officially promoted to his new |
|
position during a ceremony on May 14, 2021; since beginning his |
|
exemplary tenure with the department in September 2007, he has been |
|
honored as the Mesquite Elks Lodge Police Officer of the Year, and |
|
he has received many other accolades, including numerous |
|
commendations, as well as two Certificate of Civic Achievement |
|
awards and three awards for saving lives; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his work on the force, Sergeant Rhone |
|
is an adjunct criminal justice professor at Texas A&M |
|
University-Commerce and the University of North Texas; he holds |
|
bachelor's and master's degrees in criminal justice from UNT; a man |
|
of faith, he is a valued congregant of St. Luke "Community" United |
|
Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to serving his fellow citizens, |
|
Torrey Rhone has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public |
|
safety, and he may reflect with pride on his accomplishments as he |
|
takes on the challenges and opportunities of his new rank; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Torrey Rhone on becoming the first |
|
African American to serve at the rank of sergeant as a member of the |
|
Mesquite Police Department and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Sergeant Rhone as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
