SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Lubbock Meals on Wheels on the occasion of the |
|
|
organization's 50th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Lubbock Meals on Wheels was established in 1971 by |
|
|
West Texas Home Health, which undertook a project to feed homebound |
|
|
people and developed the project into a nonprofit charitable |
|
|
organization; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Lubbock Meals on Wheels has |
|
|
expanded its operation to meet a growing demand for home meal |
|
|
delivery; the organization obtained a permanent location with a |
|
|
kitchen for food preparation and later added a volunteer center to |
|
|
the facility; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1971, Lubbock Meals on Wheels delivered 1,221 |
|
|
meals to people in need, and today, its 1,700 volunteers deliver |
|
|
more than 20,000 meals each year; upon finding that some people were |
|
|
feeding a portion of their food to their pets, the organization |
|
|
began delivering pet food in addition to meals for clients; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Lubbock Meals on Wheels has had an invaluable impact |
|
|
on the community and has greatly benefited its clients and its |
|
|
volunteers who find fulfillment in helping others; it is truly |
|
|
fitting that this exceptional organization receive special |
|
|
recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby commend the staff and volunteers of Lubbock Meals on Wheels |
|
|
on their commitment to community service and extend to them best |
|
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for this |
|
|
exemplary organization as an expression of high regard from the |
|
|
Texas Legislature. |
