Gregorio M. Gutierrez |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Gregorio M. Gutierrez, who died December |
|
13, 2020, at the age of 66; and |
|
WHEREAS, Gregorio Gutierrez was an exemplary citizen and |
|
esteemed leader in journalism whose commitment to creating a |
|
bridge between the Hispanic and Anglo communities had a |
|
significant influence on shaping local communities and an impact |
|
on the lives of countless individuals; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on November 17, 1954, in San Luis Potosi, |
|
Mexico, Gregorio immigrated to the United States in 1984 and |
|
moved to San Angelo in 1986; he served as a disc jockey at a local |
|
Spanish-language radio station, and he went on to form a media |
|
production company that led to the creation of a successful |
|
newspaper business; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1990, he married Araceli Lara, who shared his |
|
passion for establishing a Spanish-language newspaper for San |
|
Angelo and the surrounding communities; he and his beloved wife |
|
were blessed with six children, 17 grandchildren, and two |
|
great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of much pride and |
|
joy for him; and |
|
WHEREAS, He became a United States citizen in 2000, and he |
|
and Araceli soon began publishing Conexión Hispana, a weekly |
|
newspaper that made a profound difference in the ways in which |
|
the region addressed issues of importance to the Hispanic |
|
community; its success led them to produce additional |
|
publications, including Conexión San Angelo, Conexión Del Rio, |
|
Conexión a la Salud, Conexión Cristiana, and Art and Culture |
|
Connection; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of faith, integrity, and vision, he gave |
|
unselfishly to others, and his quiet determination and |
|
commitment to public service will not be forgotten by those who |
|
were privileged to share in his life; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
|
family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Gregorio M. Gutierrez; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Gregorio Gutierrez. |
