SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 267
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Dana Gibson Hoyt for her outstanding contributions
  to the field of higher education; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Hoyt is the president of Sam Houston State
  University; the school's first female president, she has led the
  university through 10 years of impressive growth, including the
  founding of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the first
  medical program to be established in the Texas State University
  System; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Hoyt earned a bachelor's degree in business
  accounting and a master's degree in business administration from
  Texas Woman's University, and she earned a doctorate degree in
  business from The University of Texas at Arlington; and
         WHEREAS, She has brought a passion for education and a
  wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role as university
  president, as well as her own experience as a first-generation
  college student; throughout her tenure of leadership, she has
  provided unwavering support for students and has been a tireless
  advocate for their success; and
         WHEREAS, She has previously served as vice president of
  Finance and Operations at Southern Methodist University and as
  president of National University in California, and she has
  served as a vice chancellor at the University of Colorado at
  Denver; she holds leadership positions in a number of
  professional and civic organizations, including the Southern
  Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges,
  Woodforest Bank, the American Association of State Colleges and
  Universities, and the American Academic Leadership Institute;
  and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, Dr. Hoyt
  has had a positive impact on the lives of countless students, and
  it is truly fitting that she receive special recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Dana Gibson Hoyt on her
  exceptional achievements as president of Sam Houston State
  University and extend to her best wishes for continued success in
  all of her endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
