SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449
|
|
WHEREAS, Former state representative Glenn O. Lewis of |
|
Fort Worth was elected chair of the Texas Wesleyan University |
|
Board of Trustees on April 23, 2021, becoming the first African |
|
American in the university's history to hold the position; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Lewis graduated with a bachelor's degree from |
|
Texas Wesleyan University in 1981, before earning his juris |
|
doctor degree from The University of Texas School of Law in |
|
Austin in 1983; he is currently a partner in the Fort Worth office |
|
of the national law firm Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In January 1995, Mr. Lewis embarked on the first |
|
of five terms in the Texas House of Representatives; during his |
|
10 years in office, he served as chair of the Committee on County |
|
Affairs and vice chair of the Committee on House Administration, |
|
as well as vice chair of both the Tarrant County Legislative |
|
Delegation and the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After concluding his tenure in the state |
|
legislature, Mr. Lewis was appointed to both the Texas Southern |
|
University Board of Regents and the Texas Wesleyan University |
|
Board of Trustees in 2007; over the years, he has distinguished |
|
himself in numerous other leadership roles, including as chair of |
|
the board of the Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of |
|
Commerce and as a member of the Corporate Leadership Council of |
|
the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Lewis has further shared his time and insight |
|
as a board member for the Fort Worth Tarrant County Branch of the |
|
NAACP, the Arts Council of Fort Worth, Water from the Rock, Inc., |
|
and the Tarrant County Medical Education and Research |
|
Foundation, as well as a member of the United Way of Tarrant |
|
County's Public Policy Committee; moreover, he has held |
|
membership in the Fort Worth and Fort Worth Hispanic Chambers of |
|
Commerce, along with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Rainbow Masonic |
|
Lodge, and the Ambassadors of Fort Worth Charitable Foundation; |
|
he and his family belong to Mount Olive Baptist Church in |
|
Arlington, where he has volunteered on the deacon and usher |
|
boards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his myriad endeavors in behalf of his |
|
community, his state, and the cause of higher education, Glenn |
|
Lewis has indeed earned the confidence of his fellow trustees at |
|
Texas Wesleyan University, and that institution is certain to |
|
benefit greatly from his continued service; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Glenn O. Lewis on being elected |
|
chair of the Texas Wesleyan University Board of Trustees and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, |
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Lewis as an expression of high regard from the |
|
Texas Senate. |
