The bill would amend Transportation Code §504.513 to include retired volunteer firefighters and retired fire protection personnel as eligible recipients for the specialty license plates established under that section. The bill would direct the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), after deduction for TxDMV administrative costs, to deposit the remainder of the issuance fee for the specialty license plates to an account created by the Comptroller in the License Plate Trust Fund for use by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) to provide grants to an organization of firefighters in Texas that provides emergency relief and scholarship funds to professional firefighters and their dependents.
There is currently no specialty license plate fee for the issuance of the specialty license plates authorized by Transportation Code §504.513. Based on the information provided by TxDMV and the Comptroller's office, it is assumed implementation of the provisions of the bill would not result in a fiscal impact to State revenue. Based on the information provided by TxDMV and TCFP, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agencies' existing resources.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
