IN RE:	HB3165 by Meyer (Relating to an affirmative defense to an allegation of truant conduct.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code to create a new affirmative defense to an allegation that a
child committed truant conduct if the absences from school were due to the child's voluntary
absence from the child's home because of abuse.

Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated as a result from implementing the provisions of the bill.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds majority vote in both houses; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2021.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
