LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 18, 2021

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3360 by Murr (Relating to civil actions by a civilly committed individual.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would create a process for determining whether a claim filed by a sexually violent predator who has been civilly committed and who has filed an affidavit or declaration of inability to pay costs should be dismissed as a false, frivolous, or malicious claim.

This analysis assumes there would be a minimal cost associated with implementing the provisions of the bill that could be absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
