Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB776 by Lucio (Relating to the creation of an adaptive sports program by the University Interscholastic League to provide students with disabilities access to team sports.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require that the University Interscholastic League ensure that students with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in team athletic activities.
Based on information provided by The University of Texas at Austin, any costs associated with implementing provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
Local Government Impact
To the extent that the bill and associated agency rules require school districts to offer new or expanded UIL programs to students with disabilities, school districts and charter schools could see increased costs. However, some school districts could offset increased costs by charging fees.
