LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 22, 2021

TO:
Honorable Brandon Creighton, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB810 by Kolkhorst (relating to the course information required to be posted on a public institution of higher education's Internet website.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The Higher Education Coordinating Board is required to implement a provision of this Act, only if the legislature appropriates money specifically for that purpose. If the legislature does not appropriate money specifically for that purpose, the Higher Education Coordinating Board may, but is not required to, implement the provision using other appropriations for that purpose.

The bill would amend the Education Code to require institutions of higher education to post certain course information on the institution's website. The bill would require the Higher Education Coordinating Board to monitor compliance with these requirements and make available to the public on the agency's website a list indicating each institution of higher education's compliance or noncompliance. It is assumed that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
