IN RE:
SB1387 by Creighton (Relating to a requirement that a voting system used in an election in this state be manufactured, stored, and held in the United States by a company headquartered in the United States.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would amend the Election Code to require all voting systems and voting system equipment be manufactured, stored, and held in the United States and sold by a company whose headquarters are located in the United States and parent company's headquarters, if applicable, are located in the United States. The bill would also require the Secretary of State (SOS) conduct a related feasibility study.
According to the Secretary of State (SOS), no significant fiscal impact to the state is anticipated.
Local Government Impact
According to the Texas Association of Counties (TAC), the organization does not know where different voting machines are manufactured. TAC states that counties purchase machines that are pre-certified at the state level by the SOS and at the Federal level by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Accordingly, the fiscal impact on counties cannot be determined.
