Honorable Bryan Hughes, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB1508 by Creighton (relating to the establishment of the election integrity division in the office of the attorney general.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would create an Election Integrity Division in the Office of the Attorney General. The newly formed division would be responsible for investigating reports of election fraud or offenses under the Election Code.
The bill would amend the Election Code relating to request for records by law enforcement in connection with an election fraud investigation.
The Office of the Attorney General indicates that the agency already has authority to pursue election fraud cases through the Election Fraud Unit housed under the Special Prosecutions Division. As a result, any additional work resulting from the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current resources.
According to the Office of the Secretary of State, no fiscal impact is anticipated from the bill.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
