LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 23, 2021

TO:
Honorable Dan Patrick, Lieutenant Governor, Senate

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB2212 by West (Relating to the duty of a peace officer to request and render aid for an injured person.), As Passed 2nd House

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to require an on-duty peace officer to request emergency medical services and render aid for an injured person to the extent of the officer's skill and training unless doing so would expose the officer or another person to a risk of bodily injury or the officer is injured and physically unable to make the request or provide the treatment.

This analysis assumes that any related costs could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

According to the Texas Municipal League, no significant fiscal implication to municipalities is anticipated.
