Pursuant to a notice posted on April 7, 2022, the House Committee on Business & Industry met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Turner, Chris, at 1:04 p.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Turner, Chris; Hefner; Crockett; Lambert; Ordaz Perez; Patterson; and Shine.

 

A quorum was present.

The Chair made opening remarks.

 

The Committee met to consider the following interim charges:

 

Review operational changes and strategies employed by the Texas Workforce Commission to

improve outcomes related to Unemployment Benefit Services, including application and

payment processes, customer services, and fraud deterrence.

 

Testimony taken/registration recorded.  (See attached witness list.)

 

Study the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on unemployment trends, hurdles to workforce

reentry, and industry-specific disruptions.

At 4:47 p.m., on the motion of Representative Turner, Chris and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
