R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. René Gutiérrez of the Brownsville Independent |
|
|
School District has been named the 2023 Regional Superintendent of |
|
|
the Year by the Region One Education Service Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Gutiérrez will go on to represent Region One in |
|
|
the statewide Superintendent of the Year Award Program sponsored by |
|
|
the Texas Association of School Boards; the program annually |
|
|
recognizes outstanding school administrators who demonstrate |
|
|
strong leadership skills and a commitment to improving educational |
|
|
quality and community engagement within their district; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The superintendent of Brownsville ISD for the past |
|
|
four years, Dr. Gutiérrez currently oversees more than 37,000 |
|
|
students; over the course of his tenure, he has spearheaded |
|
|
numerous academic and instructional initiatives, such as the Vision |
|
|
Academy of Excellence, the Educator Technology Conference, and |
|
|
various college and career programs, and he has also expanded the |
|
|
district's catalogue of extracurricular activities to include |
|
|
mariachi, wrestling, and a sports program for special education |
|
|
students; moreover, he has worked tirelessly to address the |
|
|
specific scholastic needs of students who speak English as a second |
|
|
language and of those who are economically disadvantaged; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Gutiérrez holds an associate's degree from |
|
|
Texas Southmost College, a bachelor's degree from Pan American |
|
|
University at Brownsville, and both a master's and a doctoral |
|
|
degree from The University of Texas-Pan American; he was also named |
|
|
the Regional Superintendent of the Year by Region One ESC in 2012 |
|
|
while serving as the superintendent of Edinburg CISD; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his unwavering commitment to area students |
|
|
and staff, René Gutiérrez has led the way in fostering a supportive |
|
|
and challenging educational environment, and he is truly deserving |
|
|
of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 1st |
|
|
Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. René Gutiérrez on being |
|
|
named the 2023 Regional Superintendent of the Year by the Region One |
|
|
Education Service Center and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success with his important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Gutiérrez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
