SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 44
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Norma Rocha Valles
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Norma Rocha Valles, who died
  June 7, 2023 at the age of 53; and
         WHEREAS, Norma Valles was born on July 10, 1969, in Dallas;
  a treasured citizen and a talented vocalist, her artistry and
  compassion for others had a profound impact on the Dallas
  community; and
         WHEREAS, A 1987 graduate of South Grande Prairie High
  School, Norma married Alfonso Valles in 1989, and they were
  blessed with three children, Leah, Lauren, and Alfonso Jr.; the
  couple enjoyed great success with their restaurant, Casita
  Tex-Mex Bar and Grill, and Norma found yet another career as a
  home remodeler and general contractor with her own business, NV
  Contractors; and
         WHEREAS, After winning the grand prize at La Fuente talent
  show in 1997, Norma's singing career quickly ascended; she
  performed as the only woman with a Tejano band, Grupo Cariño, and
  broke into the male-dominated mariachi industry to become known
  as Queen of the Mariachis in Dallas; Norma recorded multiple
  compact discs, including Ahi Te Va, Reflections of Romance, Every
  Time We Say Goodbye, and Ya No Soy La Misma, and she frequently
  performed the national anthem at sporting events for the Texas
  Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and FC Dallas; and
         WHEREAS, Norma was active in the Hispanic Women's Network
  of Texas Dallas Chapter, the Irving Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
  DFW Hispanic 100, Junior Players, and the Cara Mía Theatre
  Company; she was a passionate supporter of veterans and military
  service members, and she always went out of her way to help those
  in need; and
         WHEREAS, Norma was a caring and vibrant community steward
  who gave selflessly of her time and her musical talents, and her
  voice was an inspiration to countless individuals; a devoted
  wife, mother, and grandmother, Norma will long be remembered for
  her kindness and enthusiasm, and her bright spirit will live on
  in the memories of all who loved her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Norma Rocha Valles; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Norma Valles.
