R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Dumas lost an admired business and |
|
civic leader with the passing of Thomas Roy Ferguson on June 17, |
|
2023, at the age of 82; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of James and Lucile Ferguson, Tom Ferguson |
|
was born in Amarillo on March 20, 1941, and he grew up in Happy with |
|
the companionship of his brother, Robert; after graduating from |
|
high school, he attended Texas Tech University and earned a |
|
bachelor's degree in industrial engineering; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson went on to enjoy a long and rewarding |
|
career in real estate; he started a company with his wife, Peggy |
|
Ferguson, called Ad Rem Land Company, and they were involved in |
|
several other business ventures as well that helped promote the |
|
growth and prosperity of the city of Dumas and Moore County; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Ferguson gave |
|
generously of his time and talents to numerous organizations, |
|
including Meals on Wheels, the Sunray Lions Club, and the Dumas Noon |
|
Lions Club; a former Boss Lion, he was a valued member of the Lions |
|
Club for many years and attended countless events; he also served on |
|
the Moore County Hospital District's board of directors and played |
|
an important role in the hospital's advancement over the past |
|
decade; in recognition of his myriad contributions, he received the |
|
Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce's Outstanding Citizen Award |
|
in 2010 and its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020; and |
|
WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Ferguson was devoted to his |
|
family; he shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Peggy, that |
|
spanned nearly four decades until her passing in 2021, and he was |
|
the proud father of five children, Bud, Kim, Jaimie, Daniel, and |
|
Aimie; affectionately known as "Papa Tom," he had the pleasure of |
|
welcoming into his family 14 grandchildren and 16 |
|
great-grandchildren, and he delighted in planning reunions, |
|
vacations, and holidays with his loved ones; in his leisure time, he |
|
enjoyed going to Texas Tech football games and listening to classic |
|
country music and old gospel hymns; in addition, he was a man of |
|
devout faith and strong character, and he was known throughout |
|
Moore County for his kindness and generosity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Tom Ferguson lived a life that was rich in family, |
|
friends, and community service, and he will forever be remembered |
|
with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
Thomas Roy Ferguson and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of |
|
his family: to his children, Bud Martin and his wife, Brenda, Kim |
|
Yearwood and her husband, Mark, Jaimie Wilson and her husband, |
|
Matt, Dr. Daniel Ferguson and his wife, Jennifer, and Aimie |
|
Ingersoll and her husband, Chad; to his grandchildren, Damon, |
|
Tyler, Chelsea, Brad, Arila, Jacob, Emily, Jae, Troy, Benjamin, |
|
Christian, Jayci, Jaz, and Lando; to his great-grandchildren; to |
|
his brother, Robert Ferguson; and to his other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom |
|
Ferguson. |
