R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Dr. John Frederic Parrish of Houston on July 7, 2023, at
  the age of 80; and
         WHEREAS, The son of George Theodor Parrish and Frances Emma
  Kneip Parrish, John Parrish was born in Wilmar, California, on
  January 14, 1943; he graduated from Buena Park High School in 1961;
  in his younger years, he appeared on a ballroom dancing television
  show, and he tried his hand at acting before earning a bachelor's
  degree in physics from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles;
  in 1970, he received both a master's degree and a doctorate in
  physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Parrish enjoyed a rewarding career as a
  geophysicist at Shell Oil Company that spanned 30 years, and he held
  a number of patents; following his retirement, he maintained a
  geophysical consulting practice, PeriSeis Company, and served as a
  consultant at Knowledge Reservoir and Geokinetics; he was also
  involved in the local municipal utility district for more than two
  decades, and he taught physics at Lone Star College for several
  years; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Parrish benefited from the
  love and support of his wife, Donna, with whom he shared more than
  five decades of marriage; he took great pride in their children,
  Stephanie and Colin, and he had the pleasure of welcoming into his
  family four grandchildren, Alexander, Colin, Miles, and Harper;
  dedicated to his community, he was an active volunteer in Scouts
  BSA, Civil Air Patrol, Knights of Columbus, and other church
  groups; and
         WHEREAS, While the death of Dr. John Parrish brings
  immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a
  legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Dr. John Frederic Parrish and extend heartfelt sympathy to the
  members of his family: to his wife, Donna; to his daughter,
  Stephanie Snyder, and her husband, Tom; to his son, Colin Parrish,
  and his wife, Anneliese Vogel; to his four grandchildren, Alexander
  Snyder, Colin Parrish II, Miles Parrish, and Harper Parrish; to his
  brother, Richard Parrish; and to his other relatives and many
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. John
  Parrish.
