R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Flower Mound lost an engaged citizen, an admired
  veteran, and a friend to many with the passing of Donald Joseph
  Shields on July 3, 2023, at the age of 84; and
         WHEREAS, The son of George Shields and Mary Rita Healy
  Shields, Don Shields was born in Buffalo, New York, on November 5,
  1938; he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 22
  years, attaining the rank of master chief petty officer; through
  the years, he continued to be known as "Master Chief" to those who
  knew him well; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Shields was deeply patriotic and very dedicated
  to his community; a staunch Republican, he gave generously of his
  time and talents in behalf of campaigns for conservative candidates
  and causes; he attended all events and meetings of the Flower Mound
  Area Republican Club and often represented the group outside
  polling places; he was also a longtime member of the NRA; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Shields shared a
  fulfilling 50-year marriage with his wife, June Ann Shields; he was
  blessed with four children, Kirk, Kara, Karl, and Keath, as well as
  four grandchildren, Craig, Kaitlin, Cole, and Cameron, and he
  delighted in supporting them at their activities; sustained by a
  strong faith, Mr. Shields was a valued member of his church, where
  he served on the security team; he loved music, especially
  traditional barbershop singing, and his family enjoyed hearing him
  play the harmonica and tap out melodies on the piano; and
         WHEREAS, Although Don Shields will be sadly missed, his
  faith, patriotism, and civic involvement will remain a lasting
  source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Donald Joseph Shields and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
  his family: to his wife, June Ann Reeves Shields; to his children,
  Kirk Shields and his wife, Christi, Kara Shields, Karl Shields and
  his wife, Elizabeth, and Keath Shields; to his grandchildren,
  Craig, Kaitlin, Cole, and Cameron; to his great-grandchildren,
  Kaydon and Paityn; to his siblings, Mary, Brian, Art, Helen,
  JoAnna, and Marita; and to his many other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don
  Shields.
