SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Linnie Evelyn Stephenson Standley, who |
|
died May 11, 2023, at the age of 101; and |
|
WHEREAS, Linnie Evelyn Stephenson was born on May 11, |
|
1922, in Corpus Christi; her family moved to Smith Point in 1927, |
|
where Linnie resided for most of her long and fulfilling life; a |
|
beloved member of the Smith Point community, her compassion for |
|
others and her commitment to service was a shining example to all |
|
who were privileged to share in her life; and |
|
WHEREAS, After receiving her early education in a one-room |
|
schoolhouse, Linnie attended Ball High School in Galveston; |
|
shortly after graduating, she returned to Smith Point and married |
|
the love of her life, Morris Standley, on September 9, 1940; |
|
together they raised their son, Ronald, by loving example; and |
|
WHEREAS, Linnie was a founding member of the Smith Point |
|
Volunteer Fire Department in 1976; over the following decades, |
|
she served the department in various leadership roles including |
|
secretary, treasurer, and emergency care assistant, and she |
|
served as secretary and treasurer of the Chambers County Fire and |
|
Rescue Department; her bright mind and keen eye for detail |
|
contributed greatly to the fire department and to the well-being |
|
of the Smith Point community; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Linnie served as the Smith |
|
Point Baptist Church secretary for over five decades; she enjoyed |
|
recording the history of Smith Point, and her civic dedication |
|
leaves a legacy that is treasured by many citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, Linnie gave generously to her community |
|
throughout her entire life, and her wisdom, her loyalty, and her |
|
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be |
|
forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Linnie Evelyn Stephenson |
|
Standley; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Linnie Standley. |
