SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Adolfo Alvarez
 
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
  to a close with the passing of Adolfo Alvarez of Pearsall on
  June 26, 2023, at the age of 92; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Dominga and Genaro Alvarez, Adolfo
  Alvarez was born in Harlingen on May 27, 1931, and he grew up with
  seven siblings; after graduating from Harlingen High School in
  1950, he answered his nation's call to duty and served on the
  front lines during the Korean War; he later returned to Texas and
  worked as a labor contractor for farmers before establishing A&A
  Auto Parts in Pearsall in 1973; under his able leadership, the
  business grew to include locations in Dilley and Cotulla; and
         WHEREAS, Along the way, Mr. Alvarez distinguished himself as
  a dedicated champion of civil rights; he became involved with the
  Raza Unida Party, which sought to promote and support Mexican
  American politicians, and in 1975, he was named commander of the
  Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9185, where he served as a
  lifelong member; he was elected to the Frio County Commissioners
  Court in 1980, and after four years in that position, he won a spot
  on the State Democratic Executive Committee; he was also appointed
  to the Commission on Aging by former Governor Ann Richards, and he
  contributed to the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project,
  the Mexican American Democrats, the Knights of Columbus, and the
  League of United Latin American Citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarez enjoyed a rewarding marriage with his
  wife, Lupita, that spanned more than six and a half decades
  before her passing; he took great pride in their 9 children, Mary
  Jane, Adolfo, Alfredo, Arturo, Albert, Adriana, Annette, Alice,
  and the late Richard Alvarez, and over the years, his treasured
  family grew to include 19 grandchildren and 7
  great-grandchildren; sustained by his strong faith, he was a
  member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community,
  Adolfo Alvarez made a meaningful difference in the lives of his
  loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will
  be remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Adolfo Alvarez and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn
  his passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Adolfo Alvarez.
