R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The centennial of the Arlington Public Library |
|
offers a welcome opportunity to recognize the institution's many |
|
years of service to the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, The library is celebrating the anniversary with a |
|
series of events over a 10-week period in the fall of 2023, |
|
including a gala on November 4 hosted by the Friends and Foundation |
|
of the Arlington Public Library; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Arlington Public Library was established on |
|
March 23, 1923, when librarian Pearl Wade managed a book collection |
|
from the Tarrant County Free Library; today, APL serves more than |
|
1.5 million people each year at its seven branches, the East Library |
|
and Recreation Center, Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch Library, |
|
Northeast Branch Library, Southeast Branch Library, Southwest |
|
Branch Library, Woodland West Branch Library, and George W. Hawkes |
|
Downtown Library, which opened in 2018; and |
|
WHEREAS, Currently led by its director, Norma Zuniga, the |
|
library provides local residents with access to hundreds of |
|
thousands of books, audiobooks, e-books, DVDs, digital photo |
|
collections, genealogy resources, and kits for parents and |
|
teachers, as well as a variety of educational programs for children |
|
and adults; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Arlington Public Library has been a cherished |
|
resource to generations of area residents, and it is a privilege to |
|
join in celebrating the organization's rich history and the |
|
exceptional work of the many staff members, volunteers, and |
|
supporters who have sustained its mission over the past century; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th |
|
anniversary of the Arlington Public Library and extend to all those |
|
associated with the library sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the library as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
