R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Howard Taylor retired from the San Angelo Museum of |
|
Fine Arts on August 1, 2023, after 38 years of exemplary service as |
|
the museum's president and CEO; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under Mr. Taylor's leadership, the San Angelo |
|
Museum of Fine Arts became the only museum to receive the National |
|
Service Award from the American Institute of Architects, and it was |
|
further recognized with the Institute of Museum and Library |
|
Services' National Museum Service Award at a ceremony at the White |
|
House; along the way, Mr. Taylor was personally recognized with the |
|
President's Award by the Texas Association of Museums and with the |
|
Citizen of the Year Award by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce; he |
|
was also honored with the John L. Nau III Award for Excellence in |
|
Museums by the Texas Historical Commission; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from |
|
the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio, and he has pursued |
|
further studies in American civilization and historical archeology |
|
at the University of Pennsylvania; in addition, he is a graduate of |
|
the museum management program offered by the Museums Collaborative |
|
of New York and the Columbia University Business School, and he has |
|
completed a cultural arts management program through the University |
|
of Pennsylvania's Wharton School; and |
|
WHEREAS, Before coming to Texas to take the helm of the |
|
museum, Mr. Taylor served as chief of interpretation for the |
|
Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and as assistant |
|
director of the Philadelphia Maritime Museum; he has been actively |
|
involved in several professional associations, having led the |
|
Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia as president and presided |
|
over the American Association of Museums annual meeting as |
|
co-chair; he has also served on the board of directors of the |
|
American Alliance of Museums and as president of AAM's largest |
|
professional committee, the National Association for Museum |
|
Exhibition; moreover, he is a past president of the Texas |
|
Association of Museums, and he has frequently been invited to speak |
|
at museums and art venues throughout the country; and |
|
WHEREAS, The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has benefited |
|
immeasurably from Howard Taylor's visionary leadership and his |
|
unwavering commitment to the institution's mission, and the impact |
|
of his contributions will be felt for many years to come; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Howard Taylor on the |
|
occasion of his retirement from the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
