R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |
|
a close with the passing of U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) |
|
Lloyd Coley of Belton on August 28, 2023, at the age of 69; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of William E. Coley Sr. and Laura Lee Coley, |
|
Lloyd Coley was born in Richmond, Virginia, on June 19, 1954; he |
|
grew up with the companionship of eight siblings, Barbara, Essie, |
|
William, Spencer, Sylvia, Gwendolyn, Sheila, and Lavette; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Coley enlisted in the United States Army in July |
|
1972, and his distinguished military career ultimately spanned |
|
three decades; he rose to the rank of command sergeant major and was |
|
awarded the Legion of Merit in recognition of his exemplary service |
|
to his nation; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Coley enjoyed the love and |
|
support of his wife, Brenda, with whom he shared a rewarding |
|
marriage of 47 years; he was the devoted father of two children, |
|
Ebonie and Justin, and he also experienced the joy of welcoming two |
|
grandchildren into his family; a man of faith who was guided by a |
|
strong moral compass, he attended Cornerstone Baptist Church, where |
|
he was ordained as a deacon and was unanimously selected to serve as |
|
deacon chairman; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Lloyd Coley is deeply missed, memories of |
|
his integrity, his strength of character, and his devotion to his |
|
family and his country remain to comfort and inspire those he leaves |
|
behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Lloyd Coley and extend |
|
deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Brenda Coley; to his daughter, Ebonie Bain, and her husband, Nigel; |
|
to his son, Justin "Jay" Coley, and his wife, Kristy; to his |
|
grandsons, Justin and Jason; to his brothers, William E. Coley Jr. |
|
and his wife, Brenda, and Spencer Coley and his wife, Patricia; to |
|
his sisters, Sylvia Coley, Gwendolyn Coley, Sheila Green and her |
|
husband, Irvin, and Lavette Branch; and to his other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lloyd |
|
Coley. |
