R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Victor Michael Firth of El Paso, a respected |
|
attorney, football official, and friend to many, passed away on May |
|
17, 2023, at the age of 63; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Virginia L. White and Victor V. Firth, |
|
Victor Firth was born on February 15, 1960; after graduating from |
|
The University of Texas at El Paso and UT School of Law, he |
|
practiced with Crowe & Dunlevy before joining the Grambling-Mounce |
|
firm; he developed a thriving commercial real estate practice and |
|
rose to become a shareholder; in 2020, he established Victor M. |
|
Firth, P.C., with the goal of fostering a positive work-life |
|
balance allowing time for families and community engagement; he |
|
found like-minded partners, and the firm is now known as Firth, |
|
Bunn, Kerr, Neill, P.C.; a mentor to other transactional law |
|
attorneys, he also quietly shared his expertise, often pro bono, |
|
with low-income entrepreneurs and domestic violence victims; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Firth was a marvelous storyteller and |
|
conversationalist, knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics; he |
|
especially enjoyed talking about sports, and he played golf, |
|
tennis, basketball, and racquetball; in addition, he completed |
|
numerous marathons and took pleasure in pool and horse racing; most |
|
of all, he loved football, and in 1988, he began officiating; he |
|
eventually became a Division 1 collegiate football official and |
|
worked hundreds of games in multiple conferences, capping his |
|
career by officiating the 2021 Army-Navy game; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2005, Mr. Firth and a partner launched the West |
|
Texas Football Clinic to provide training and placement |
|
opportunities for aspiring college football officials; every |
|
Memorial Day weekend, the camp drew hundreds of participants eager |
|
to learn from NFL and NCAA officials and hiring supervisors; he |
|
served on the Sun Bowl Association team host committee for many |
|
years as well; in 2021, he was inducted into the El Paso Athletic |
|
Hall of Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Firth was supported in all his endeavors by the |
|
love and encouragement of his wife of nearly 37 years, Sylvia |
|
Borunda Firth; he was devoted to her and to his "fur kids," Cara, |
|
Referee, and Rocky; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Victor Firth is deeply missed, those |
|
fortunate enough to share in the richness of his life will continue |
|
to find inspiration in his warmth, kindness, and integrity; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Victor Michael Firth and extend sincere condolences to his loved |
|
ones: to his wife, Sylvia Borunda Firth; to his Borunda family; and |
|
to his other relatives and host of friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Victor |
|
Firth. |
